All residents of Huron Valley and the surrounding communities of Metro Detroit are invited to the events celebrating the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. National Day of Service in Downtown Milford. The HV MLK Day Committee will offer opportunities throughout January to participate in honoring the Dr. King holiday, from donating to their soup meal food drive to benefit Community Sharing Outreach Center’s food pantry, submitting to their art/writing/multimedia contest, to participating in the Drive-Up MLK Day Rally being held in lieu of the March on Main Street which is canceled for 2021 in accordance with statewide crowd size safety guidelines. Per their mission, the HV MLK Day Committee hosts a series of events open to everyone in the Huron Valley Community and the Metro Detroit Area to provide opportunities to serve the Beloved Community while celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. These events aim to encourage volunteerism throughout the year, to explore the connection between the Civil Rights Movement and our lives today, and to support the dreams of all citizens related to building a more peaceful and equitable society.
