This year’s March on Main Street from Prospect Hill to The SHAC is being held on Sunday, January 15, 2017. Line up for the march starts at 12:30, and the ceremony commences at 1:00 p.m. with a brief presentation and National Anthem performance. The march travels through downtown and ends at The SHAC for the closing ceremony, where there will be hot beverages and refreshments, a presentation of awards for the contest winners, as well as music in celebration of the holiday. The HV MLK Day Committee will also provide information on how to be a part of upcoming community service projects in its efforts to continue Dr. King’s vision of the Beloved Community where citizens of all ages and backgrounds donate time, effort, and energy to promote peace and unity.

Community service event to be held possibly at The SHAC. Ideas include Empty Bowl project fundraiser for Community Sharing and/or large group blanket making with blankets donated to Community Sharing or another local shelter. Also, perhaps something to support local veterans in response to recent news that Detroit ranks as the worst city in the US in terms of Veterans support.
Area residents will have the opportunity than to participate in the spirit of Dr. King's legacy as numerous events will take place throughout the weekend preceding the holiday as well as on the day itself.
Submit the form to have original artwork; watercolor, paints, pencil, written essay, poem or a recorded performance; music or other submitted for committee consideration, using the chosen theme as inspiration.
